EU Structural Funds Raised for the Material Handling Innovation
June 28, 2020Rubedo Sistemos, a Lithuania-based pioneer company of mobile robotics solutions, received €562,000 from the European Regional Development Fund to develop the innovative material handling solution using free ranging vision guided robotic forklifts. The project is part of the 2014-2020 European Union Investment Fund Operational Programme's 1st priority Investment in R&D, R&D Infrastructure, and certification of new products and services.
The main deliverable of the project is the system prototype which can automate as much as 80% of courier cross-docking operations at a typical courier hub. In addition, the core technology has a wide range of other potential applications in manufacturing as well as transportation and logistics domain and will enjoy growing market demand over the next years. Recent rapid growth of the computer vision market is driven by increasing use of intelligent mobile robots. With this project Rubedos supports the Industry 4.0 revolution and seeks to unleash the power of intelligent machines, so they can leave their safety cages and collaborate with human workers.
The research part of the project aims to develop the algorithm for the accurate pallet detection and localization inside a warehouse. The results of the research will be verified in a series of the planned experiments.
The successful implementation of the project will have a positive impact on the company's future business development as well as on Lithuania's economic development.
